Dar Mlodziezy
The Dar Mlodziezy is a Polish sailing training ship, designed by Zygmunt Choren and launched in 1982 in Gdansk. It is especially built to train the cadets of the Polish marine and to win a lot of Tall Ship Races. The English name of this Ship is "The Gift of Youth", appropriate since it was partly financed by the gifts of young school-children. The 110.6 metres long deck, the 62.1 metres high masts and 3.015 square metres of sails make the Dar Mlodziezy a forcefull competitor in the different regatta`s. Members of the Royal families, heads of the states, famous artists, businessmen and trainees find aboard this vessel the atmosphere of hospitality of the Polish home.

Accommodation

The Dar Mlodziezy has cabins for 10 persons. On the corridors are enough toilets and showers. With such a large crew and trainees there is a classroom to study, a bar for a drink and a well equipped galley were everybody get their (real Polish) meals.

History


The Dar Mlodziezy is the first in a series of of six sister ships built for the Polish and Russian navy. The other sister ships, which were built for the former Soviet Union: Khersones (Crimea peninsula, where there are remains of a Greek settlement) Pallada, Drushzba (means "Friendship"), Nadeshzda (means "Hope"). They are all built in Polen on the shipyard in Gdansk. The Dar replaced the Dar Pomorza. In the 70`s the Gdynia Maritime Academy discussed to built a new ship. The youth and student organisations started fundraising which was succesfull! The sailing craft and the will of fight as well as the imposing appearance of the crew of "Dar Mlodziezy" is admired all over the world. The¬refore, the vessel is so willingly visited both by ordinary tourists and distinguished guests. So she is the place of unique events and special ceremonies. Aboard this vessel, members of the Royal families, heads of the states, famous artists, businessmen and Polish colonies will find the atmosphere of hospitality of the Polish home.
